3 Easy Steps to Maintain Your Air Conditioner this Summer

AC Unit.jpeg

Maintaining an air conditioning unit doesn’t take a lot of time or effort and ignoring the necessary service can lead to an air conditioner malfunction and cost. Using these few tips can help keep your AC unit working and functional.

  1. Change Your Filter Regularly

The easiest and most important maintenance task to complete is replacing old filters or cleaning them regularly. Clogged and dirty filters obstruct airflow and cause the unit to work harder. This may lead to higher electric bills. Additionally, your air conditioner will not last as long without a new filter.

The evaporator and condenser coils within air conditioners can quickly collect dust and dirt if the filter is not changed regularly. When air conditioner coils are soiled, the dirt and build up will reduce the ability to produce airflow for your home.

  1. Turn Off the A/C and Take Advantage of Other Ventilation Options

On cooler summer days, take advantage of other ventilation options to keep your home just as cool for a fraction of the cost. Open windows, box fans and whole house fans can help prevent overworking your air conditioner. It is important to efficiently ventilate to ensure the preservation of energy:

  • Open windows when it’s breezy to cool your home with a cross-wise breeze
  • Turn off fans when you leave a room to not waste energy
  • Use whole house fans to pull air in the windows and provide a cooling effect
  1. Reseal Windows and Doors

During the winter and spring months, the moisture of rain and snow can cause decaying on the seals around your doors and windows. This will cost you money. Be sure to replace the seals to keep your home cool.
