When you buy a house, your credit plays a large part in the mortgage approval process - similar to how a property inspection factors into your home approval process.

If your credit needs some improvement so you can qualify for financing, there are several steps you can take. One of the easiest ways to better your credit history and rating is to pay your bills on time.

Late payments and collections on your credit report can noticeably affect your credit score. This applies to any uncollected debt that goes to collections, even something as small as a long-overdue library book.

Mark your calendar so you know when you bills are due, and after a few months of on-time payments, your credit rating may improve.
