To change the lock or not to change the lock

When you move into a new home, you usually change the locks right away to ensure security. However, what about when you sign a lease for a new apartment?

One of the first things you can do when you move into a new place is and ask if the locks have been changed. You might also want to look over the lease agreement to see if this information has already been relayed to you through the legal document. 

If you decide you want to change the locks, you will need to speak with your landlord and let him or her know. Also, you should give him or her a spare key in case of emergencies.
